SPECIAL MOTHER’S DAY CARDS HELP GRIEVING CHILDREN

Mommy’s Light Launches Fundraising Campaign

Exton, PA – April 19, 2007 – Families around the country will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13.  But for children who have lost their mothers, the day will be bittersweet.

Mommy’s Light Lives On Fund®, founded in Pennsylvania in 1997, brings joy and comfort to children and teens whose mothers have died or are terminally ill by helping them keep alive traditions and simple pleasures they shared with their mothers.  The organization commissioned local artist April D’Angelo to design a Mother’s Day card that is being distributed through a direct mail fundraising campaign.  Recipients can send the card to an important mom in their lives, while their donations to Mommy’s Light provide the priceless gifts of happiness and support to bereaved children.  D’Angelo’s card also is available for a donation via the organization’s website at http://www.mommyslight.org/store.htm.

Mothers are typically the emotional champions of the family, the keepers of small details who have the privilege of establishing family traditions.  “Children who are able to maintain positive connections with their deceased mothers benefit emotionally, physically and psychologically,” said Laura Munts, Executive Director of Mommy’s Light.  “Sending our beautiful Mother’s Day card, and letting her know a donation to Mommy’s Light has been made in her honor to help us continue our work with these children, would be a meaningful gift any mom would appreciate.”

There are more than 20,000 children eligible for Mommy’s Light’s direct services in the Delaware Valley, and more than 626,000 maternally bereaved children under the age of 18 in the United States, with 125,000 being added each year.  Mommy’s Light offers bereavement education materials nationwide, including a groundbreaking educational DVD and informative pamphlets, to surviving family members, caregivers, counselors and teachers to help them better understand a child’s bereavement process.  For more information, to make a donation or volunteer, visit the website at www.mommyslight.org or call 610-725-9790.
