Downingtown, PA – November 8, 2006 – The annual Night of Stars Gala, featuring dinner sponsored by Wachovia and live and silent auctions sponsored by SmartPark, was held November 4 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square.  Attended by approximately 150 people, the event raised more than $60,000 to benefit Mommy’s Light Lives On Fund.

Mommy’s Light’s mission is to bring joy and comfort to children and teens whose mothers are terminally ill or have died, by helping them keep alive traditions and simple pleasures they shared with their mothers.  The Downingtown-based organization relies on corporate and individual sponsorship to sustain services and cultivate growth.  www.mommyslight.org.

“It was a magical evening,” said Mommy’s Light’s Executive Director Laura Munts (Downingtown).  ”A highlight was Alexis DiClemente (Drexel Hill), celebrating her 16th birthday and inspiring guests with her story of how Mommy’s Light has arranged for her family to continue attending the Nutcracker ballet each holiday season, carrying on the tradition she and her sister Emily shared with their mother.

Both girls and their father shared their stories in Mommy’s Light’s bereavement educational DVD, When a Mother Dies…Taking Down the Walls of Silence, a groundbreaking endeavor that will benefit thousands of grieving families throughout the country.  The family was presented with a Mommy’s Light Angel Award at the event for their outstanding contributions.  A symbol of guardianship, it represents mothers who have died as well as people who care enough to make a positive difference in the lives of grieving children.

Bob Armstrong, President MC3 (West Chester) and Ellen Langas Campbell, President, NouSoma Communications, Inc. (Downingtown) were also honored with Angel Awards for their significant contributions to developing the educational DVD.

Linda Swain, Haverford, Emmy Award-winning host and producer of the “Moms on the Move” television program, was the evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies, with celebrity auctioneers Kathy Levine, West Chester, America’s TV Shopping Diva, and Bill Piszek, Fort Washington, Co-Chairman of the Copernicus Society of America in Fort Washington.  For more information, call 610-725-9790 or visit www.mommyslight.org.
