Paoli, PA - 3 November 2003 – Seventy-five athletes and family members of the Members of the St. Norbert’s field hockey and soccer teams participated in a 3Kk fun run/walk fundraiser at the Upper Main Line YMCA on October 24th.  Mommy's Light is a Delaware Valley based non-profit organization that brings joy and comfort to young people whose mothers are in life-threatening situations or are deceased.

Athletes, ranging from 5th to 8th graders, collected pledges to support their 3k fun run/walk. Lou Tilley, CN8’s award-winning sportscaster, presented handed out prizes to Gabrielle Liberi, Kelly Corcoran, Ally Campbell, Kelly Meehan and Alexandra Hartnett, who had the highest pledge totals. They received gift certificates to Wayne Sporting Goods and membership privileges to the Upper Main Line YMCA.

"The walk generated a huge amount of excitement with a tremendous turnout by students, families and community members. Not only did the athletes enjoy the event, but raised more than we ever expected. "It was a beautiful fall day and wonderful to see our children walking to raise money to help other children. These athletes have been so excited about this event and raised pledges beyond our expectations!" said Lori Grim, St. Norbert's CYO Event Organizer and Paoli resident. "It was heartwarming to see our children walking to raise money to help other children."

"Mommy's Light estimates that 20,000 young people in the Delaware Valley are dealing with the potential or actual death of their mothers.," said Laura Munts, Executive Director of Mommy's Light and a Downingtown, PA resident. "St. Norbert’s CYO, and students and community should be proud of their efforts and tremendous contribution to Mommy’s Light should be very proud of their efforts and their community’s generosity," said Laura Munts, Executive Director of Mommy's Light and a Downingtown, PA resident. she adds.

Mommy's Light was founded by Mary Murphy, a Newtown Square, PA resident, less than three months before she died of cancer. Mary and her son created a plan to keep her spirit alive by preserving special traditions they shared. That philosophy is the basis for Mommy's Light's programs today. Currently, Mommy's Light's services are available to young people in southeastern PA, southern NJ and northern DE.
