Devon, PA – April 11, 2003 – Whole
Foods Markets of Devon and Wynnewood hosted the Villanova
Men’s and Women’s basketball teams for its Slam Dunk 5%
Day competition on April 3rd. The Women's team won at
Devon and the Men's team won at Wynnewood. Shoppers were
also treated to music by Sally’s Music Circle. The event
raised over $4,500 for Mommy’s Light Lives On Fund.
Mommy’s Light Lives On Fund is a
non-profit organization based in the Delaware Valley that
brings joy and comfort to young people whose mothers are
in life-threatening situations or are deceased by helping
them keep alive traditions and simple pleasures they
shared with their mothers.
"The fund was created by Mary
Murphy, a Newtown Square, PA resident, less than three
months before she died of cancer in 1997," said Mommy's
Light Lives On Fund President Laura Munts of Downingtown.
"Mary and her son created a plan to keep her spirit alive
by preserving special traditions they shared. Today, our
services are available to young people in southeastern PA,
southern NJ and northern DE." Mommy’s Light estimates that
20,000 young people in the Delaware Valley are dealing
with the actual or potential deaths of their mothers.
"Whole Foods Markets of Devon and
Wynnewood had one of our most successful 5% Days ever,"
said Deborah Meierdiercks, Marketing Specialist/Community
Liaison for Whole Foods Market of Devon. "The Villanova
Basketball players were great sports, being personal
shoppers, bagging groceries, stocking produce. And the
children’s music concerts had our shoppers and staff
dancing in the aisles."
