Villanova, PA - 7 November 2002-
The Montangelica Fund of The Philadelphia Foundation
recently granted $2,750 to Mommy’s Light Lives On Fund.
Mommy’s Light was created by Mary Murphy of Newtown
Square, less than three months before she died of cancer
in 1997, to continue traditions for children whose mothers
are seriously ill or deceased.
"Mommy’s Light is a non-profit
organization that brings joy to young people whose mothers
are in life-threatening situations or are deceased.
Mommy’s Light helps these children by keeping alive the
traditions and simple pleasures they shared with their
mothers," said Downingtown resident Laura Munts, Mommy's
Light President.
"Mary Murphy and her son created a
plan to keep her spirit alive by preserving special
traditions they shared. Today, our services are available
to young people in southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New
Jersey and northern Delaware," said Munts. Mommy's Light
estimates that 20,000 young people in the Delaware Valley
are dealing with the potential or actual deaths of their
mothers.
The grant came from The
Montangelica Fund, established by Ray Hansell and Mary Sue
Lucci of Villanova in 2001 at The Philadelphia Foundation
to give something back to those in need.
"Montangelica means ‘Mountain of
Angels.’ We are always looking for the next angel to
support," said Hansell. "This year we’re delighted to
welcome Mommy’s Light to The Montangelica Fund family. We
look to support local charities that have a vision of how
to make the world a better place and were founded by or on
behalf of people who are now deceased. Grants are made
possible from the sale of CDs featuring local talent.
Local artists helping local charities is an exciting part
of what The Montangelica Fund is all about."

As the Delaware Valley’s primary
provider of philanthropic services, The Philadelphia
Foundation helps nearly 500 caring families give something
back to their community by managing their charitable
giving funds. Revenue generated from these funds provides
scholarships and support to hundreds of cultural,
educational, and humanitarian programs in Southeastern
Pennsylvania, exactly as the donors intended.
