Laura Munts, President of Mommy's
Light Lives on Fund, announced today that Helen Rankin has
been appointed the organization's first Executive
Director. Mommy's Light's mission is to bring joy to
children by keeping alive a tradition or simple pleasure
they shared with their mother. Mommy's Light serves
children between the ages of 3 and 18 whose mothers are in
life threatening situations or deceased.
"We are excited that Ms. Rankin
accepted this position," said Ms. Munts, "because our
organization has outgrown the capacity of our terrific
volunteer base. Ms. Rankin has the
experience and enthusiasm to help us reach more families
than ever. With Ms. Rankin's leadership, we hope to begin
greater outreach to the more than 20,000 eligible children
in our service area."
Ms. Rankin has more than seven
years experience in the nonprofit arena, most recently as
an independent consultant for organizations needing help
with operational or fund raising issues. Previously, she
was the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Unit of
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic. Ms. Rankin holds a
degree in Business Administration from West Chester
University and has taken classes in Eastern College's
graduate program of nonprofit management.
"Because children experience grief
differently than most adults, their needs are often
misunderstood," said Ms. Rankin. By using a systematic,
child-focused effort, Mommy's
Light is actively facilitating the child's healing
process. "As far as I know, our service is unique," Ms.
Rankin said.
