Villanova, PA – 5 June 2002 –
Sally’s Music Circle , the award-winning parent/child
music program, presented a family fun show Sunday, June 2,
at the Villanova Pavilion. Attended by more than 600
people, the program raised more than $2500 for Mommy’s
Light Lives on Fund.
Mommy’s Light is a non-profit
organization based in Chester County that brings joy to
young people whose mothers are in life-threatening
situations or deceased by keeping alive traditions and
simple pleasures they shared with their mothers.
"The fund was created by Mary
Murphy of Newtown Square less than three months before she
died of cancer in 1997," said Downingtown resident Laura
Munts, Mommy’s Light President. "Mary and her son created
a plan to keep her spirit alive by preserving special
traditions they shared. Today, our services are available
to young people in southeastern Pennsylvania , southern
New Jersey and northern Delaware ." Mommy’s Light
estimates that 20,000 young people in the Delaware Valley
are dealing with the potential or actual deaths of their
mothers.
"Sally's Music Circle has always
tried to give back to the communities we serve by giving
Thank You Concerts, donating to organizations that support
very young children or volunteering to perform for
children's charities and hospitals," said Narberth
resident Sally Weaver, founder of Sally’s Music Circle. "I
knew Mary Murphy and am touched by what she created. I
want to help Mommy's Light get the word out about what
they do so that children in need can have the tangible
experience of how a Mommy's Light lives on."
Special guest Kathy Levine, of
Studios USA, HSN and a popular former QVC host, served as
emcee. Event sponsors included Comcast Cable
Communications, Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, Fresh
Fields/Whole Food Markets of Devon, American Express, PECO
Energy Company, Sally's Music Circle and Villanova
University.
